Winner of two prestigious Tommy Awards, Southern California Ballet is a classical ballet company with an extensive repertoire of over 36 productions, and a strong history of developing successful, professionally staged and choreographed productions for the San Diego community, complemented with guest artists from professional companies.
Our performance season includes annual Nutcracker and spring story ballets, plus fall outreach productions. For the past ten years, Southern California Ballet has provided outreach productions to over 30,000 school children, including disadvantaged and at-risk children who might otherwise not have been exposed to the ballet art form. Southern California Ballet also periodically appears in collaboration with the San Diego Chamber Orchestra, as well as Bravo, a community-wide arts event.
Company members come from all corners of San Diego County and other parts of Southern California. Dancers’ ages range from 14 to 19 years. Each has completed at least seven levels of Cecchetti International examinations and studies advanced dance techniques an average of 16 hours per week.
Black Mountain Dance Centre is the official school of Southern California Ballet, staffed with instructors formerly or currently members of international professional companies and credentialed in Cecchetti Ballet Method.
